In the first round Store Club A defeated Wallyford B 3-2, and Terry Hogarth scoring a 180 in the triple, Cockenzie Legion A A won through against Inveresk C 3-1, Prestonpans Legion A B beat the Dasher A 3-0, finally Wallyford A won 3-0 against Eskmills A. The semi-finals were two contrasting games. In the first semi between Cockenzie Legion A A and Prestonpans Legion A B, it came down to the last single and what a game it turned out to be.The nearest desciption would be Aesop's fable the Tortoise & The Hare. The Hare would be Cockenzie's Paul McMillan & theTortoise would be Prestonpans' Alan Sneddon. Paul raced off and after 15 darts was on 70 and Alan was languishing way behind, Paul raced in for the victory but could not cross the finishing line, meanwhile slowly bringing down his score was Alan, Paul then burst the 70, missed double 20,10,5 & 2 to leave "the madhouse " double one, meanwhile Alan was slowly nearing a double, but he too was reluctant to cross the line. After many a nail biting darts being thrown and missed at doubles, as in the fable it was the tortoise, Alan Sneddon, who checked out double 8 & put the Prestonpans team into the final. The second game was an exciting game between Wallyford A and the Store Club A.The Store Club opened up by winning the triple, then Terry Hogarth & Gus Santana survived their opponents having 6 darts at a double before checking out and making the score 2-0. The first single was won by Terry on double 16 and it was the leg to put the Store Club into the final. The final between Prestonpans A B and Store Club A started of with a nervous triples match , which after several attempts was won when Dave Courtney of the Store Club checked out on double 1. The double was won with a 25 dart 701, which included 3 tons and 2 x 140s, and checked out on double tops by the current Muselburgh & District League singles champion Tam Hamilton. Tam went on to defeat Terry Hogarth in another good leg of 20 darts in the first single.Dave Courtney then defeated Colin McEwan to make the score 2-2 and it went to the final leg. The Tortoise in the semi-final, Alan Sneddon was against Gus Santana to decide the triple champions. This leg there was no tortoise as Alan Sneddon led all the way in a close fought game, this time he was unfortunate to miss the doubles, as did Gus Santana, as nerves seemed to set in but Gus eventually hit double 4 to give the Store Club Team the victory and made them Triples Champion for the 2008/09 season. |
